High Point Supports the March of Dimes in the Fight Against Premature Birth and Birth Defects
(Red Bank, N.J.) - Representatives from High Point, one of the five largest New Jersey auto insurers, joined about 2,500 Monmouth County residents to support the March of Dimes' mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality during WalkAmerica in Belmar on Sunday, May 1.
As a finish line sponsor of WalkAmerica, 15 High Point volunteers cheered on walkers as they completed the seven-mile walk through Belmar and the surrounding communities to the Taylor Pavilion.
"High Point is proud to support the March of Dimes WalkAmerica," said Jim Tignanelli, President of the High Point group of insurance companies. "We are delighted to participate in an event that raises funds for research and innovative programs that help save premature babies born with severe health problems."
According to Donna Zaleski, State Director of WalkAmerica, March of Dimes New Jersey Chapter, the Belmar fundraiser is projected to have collected about $282,000, which will help meet March of Dimes’ New Jersey WalkAmerica 2005 goal of $3.83 million.
"For more than 20 years, WalkAmerica in Belmar has been a big annual contributor to the March of Dimes," said Zaleski. "Thanks to selfless volunteers and companies like High Point, we are saving millions of babies from death and disability."
WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes' biggest fund-raiser. It is also a national tradition with a 35-year history of success. Last year, the Belmar WalkAmerica collected more than $275,000 of the $3.6 million raised throughout New Jersey.
"This sponsorship is one of many ways in which High Point is working to make a difference in communities in New Jersey," said Mr. Tignanelli. "By taking part in WalkAmerica, we're helping to support the fight against premature birth and birth defects. This is a serious issue that is close to our hearts. It was a great experience, and we look forward to being involved again in the future."
