Are my child’s belongings covered on my homeowner policy with High Point while he or she is away a school?

A student who is temporarily away at college but comes back home during the summer is still considered a household resident and is insured by your policy. There is coverage for personal property up to 10% of the Coverage C limit on your policy, no matter if the student lives in a dormitory, fraternity/sorority house, apartment, or rented house while at college. However, if the student leaves property at the school residence for 45 or more consecutive days without actually being there (during summer break for example), there is no coverage for theft of this property.

Am I covered during a move to another location?

We cover personal property owned or used by an insured anywhere in the world. Our limit for personal property usually located at an insured’s residence is 10% of the limit for coverage C or $2,000, whichever is greater. Personal property in a newly acquired principal residence is not subject to this limitation for first 30 days after the move.
